Magnolia virginiana

Family: Magnoliaceae, Genus: Magnolia

Description:

This elegantly shaped, profusely fragrant, and fast-growing flowering tree can be grown as a rounded-canopy tree or a multi-stemmed shrub. It has cream-white blossoms with a vanilla-scented aroma and blooms later in spring, avoiding late-spring frosts. The tree is resistant to magnolia scale, tolerates periodic flooding, and survives in acidic poorly-drained soils. It provides shelter, nesting sites, and nourishment to wildlife and has a deciduous green canopy that reaches 10-35 feet in height with a respective spread.
