Description:
Cornus sericea 'Cardinal', commonly known as Red Twig Dogwood, is a deciduous shrub celebrated for its striking red stems in winter. It produces fragrant white flowers in late spring, attracting pollinators and songbirds, and its dark green leaves turn a vibrant red-purple in fall. This shrub can grow up to 10 feet tall and wide, thriving in USDA zones 2-7, and is adaptable to both well-drained and wet sites. It is deer-resistant and effective for erosion control on slopes or stream banks. The plant is extremely cold hardy and was developed by the University of Minnesota in 1986.
