Prunus maritima

Family: Rosaceae, Genus: Prunus

Description:

Prunus maritima, commonly known as the beach plum, is a dense shrub native to the East Coast of the United States. It produces edible, dull purple fruits in August, often used in jams and jellies. The plant requires cross-pollination to bear fruit, necessitating the presence of more than one tree. In early May, it showcases a profusion of white flowers, attracting pollinators. This shrub is well-suited to drought-prone areas with loamy or sandy soils and grows best in sunny, well-drained locations, reaching a mature height and width of 5-6 feet.
