Amorphophallus gigas

Family: Araceae, Genus: Amorphophallus

Description:

Amorphophallus gigas, native to Sumatra, is a striking plant known for its towering inflorescence, which can reach up to 14 feet in height. It features a large spadix and spathe with maroon tinges, and its foliage can spread to 13 feet. This plant is famous for its carrion-like odor, which attracts pollinators. It thrives in high humidity and temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, growing in a mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark. The plant periodically dies back to its corm, which can weigh over 100 pounds. Amorphophallus gigas is one of the tallest members of its genus and is more colorful than the well-known A. titanum.
