Description:

Calycanthus floridus, also known as Carolina Allspice or Strawberry Bush, is a dense, rounded deciduous shrub with aromatic reddish-maroon blossoms. Blooming in May, it attracts birds and pollinators and is deer-resistant. The shrub grows 6-8 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide, thriving in full sun to partial shade and preferring rich loam soil. Its leaves turn golden yellow in fall, and it naturalizes by suckers, forming dense thickets.
