Family: Sarraceniaceae, Genus: Sarracenia

Description:

This easy-to-grow plant is native to the wet pocosins of the Gulf Coast from Georgia to the Mississippi Delta. It is very tall with dark red veins and attracts many flying insects, particularly wasps. The plant prefers very wet, even water-logged areas and forms colonies with 8 to 12 pitchers per plant. It is showy in spring and fall, tolerates light frost but does not overwinter, and blooms from March to April with large, showy flowers that are bright crimson to maroon and mildly fragrant.
