Eranthis hyemalis

Family: Ranunculaceae, Genus: Eranthis

Description:

Eranthis hyemalis, commonly known as winter aconite, is a low-maintenance tuberous perennial native to southeast Europe. It is one of the first flowers to bloom in early spring, producing lemon-yellow blooms with green collars. This plant is deer and rabbit resistant and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers well-drained, enriched, slightly alkaline soil and has moderate moisture needs. Eranthis hyemalis forms a slow-spreading groundcover, adding a cheerful splash of color to gardens after winter. However, it contains toxins that can cause skin reactions, so care should be taken when handling.
