Description:
Native to the lower Midwest, this plant grows in dry sandy soils and forms a rosette with dark green, pubescent silvery-backed leaves. It produces 2-foot tall flower spikes with small hairy white flowers in early July, with roots historically used as food and for medicinal purposes by Native American tribes.
