Description:

Iris nelsonii is a native perennial from the southern US, discovered in a swamp in Louisiana. It is thought to be a hybrid of Iris fulva, Iris brevicaulis, and Iris giganticaerulea. The plant forms a vigorous clump of narrow, green, deer-resistant foliage and produces cinnamon/lavender flowers in early May. It thrives in moist soil or up to 4 inches of standing water and attracts hummingbirds.
