Description:
Phragmipedium kovachii is a critically endangered orchid native to the Andean cloud forests of northern Peru. It grows in clumps with large, pink to purple flowers that can reach up to 8 inches wide. The plant prefers calcareous soil and thrives at elevations between 5,250 and 6,400 feet. Its striking flowers and glossy green leaves make it a sought-after species, though its survival is threatened by overcollection.
