Citrus medica

Family: Rutaceae, Genus: Citrus

Description:

Citrus medica, a lime-like citrus tree from Japan, is a cross between a Mandarin and a Lime, prized for its juice over the rind. This evergreen tree features fragrant white blossoms and glossy green leaves, making it an attractive addition to gardens. The fruit is smaller, juicier, and less seedy than Yuzu, with a distinctive spicy aroma reminiscent of lime, pepper, dill, and cumin. Citrus medica is best harvested when green, about the size of a Ping-Pong ball, and is used to flavor soups, fish dishes, and Matsutake mushrooms. This tree requires full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It can be grown in containers or in-ground, with cold protection needed in colder areas. Its unique flavor and aromatic qualities make it a popular choice for culinary enthusiasts and gardeners alike.
