Sarracenia 'Velvet'

Family: Sarraceniaceae, Genus: Sarracenia

Description:

This colorful shorter cultivar of S. leucophylla has reddish-brown veins and fine velvety pubescence, likely a complex cross of S. leucophylla and S. purpurea venosa. It prefers very wet, even water-logged areas and forms colonies with 8 to 12 pitchers per plant. The plant is showy in spring and fall, with large, bright crimson to maroon flowers that bloom from March to April before the pitchers fully develop.
