Microsorum pteropus

Family: Polypodiaceae, Genus: Microsorum

Description:

The Java Fern is a popular and hardy aquarium plant originating from Indonesia, known for its ability to thrive in low light conditions and a wide range of water parameters. It can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decorations, making it versatile for aquascaping. The plant propagates by cutting or pulling apart its rhizomes, which should be kept above the substrate. Java Ferns are epiphytic, meaning they grow on other surfaces rather than in soil, and they are suitable for beginner hobbyists due to their easy care requirements. They can tolerate a variety of aquarium conditions and do not require CO2 injection, although it can enhance growth. The plant's leaves may develop orange to amber tips under ideal conditions, and dots on the underside of the leaves are normal.
