It is celebrated for its striking dark green foliage with metallic-purple stripes, making it a popular choice for adding color to gardens and enclosures. This plant can grow up to 3 feet tall and wide, and under the right conditions, it produces pale purple flowers. It thrives in warm, humid environments with good light and requires a minimum temperature of 50°F. Often treated as an annual due to its color fading, it has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
