Euphorbia flanaganii

Family: Euphorbiaceae, Genus: Euphorbia

Description:

Euphorbia flanaganii, also known as Transkei medusa's head, is a unique succulent native to South Africa. This dwarf shrub features a swollen underground stem and branches that spread out like snakes, resembling the mythical Medusa. It grows to a height of 0.8 to 2 inches and can reach up to 16 inches in diameter. The plant produces tiny yellow flowers at the apex of its thick caudex during late summer and autumn. Its needle-like leaves are small, measuring about 0.4 inches long, and the plant thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. The photosynthetic stems are modified for survival in arid conditions, making it a fascinating addition to any succulent collection.
