Description:
This evergreen shrub, native to Asia, is known for its bright yellow, fragrant flowers that bloom in early winter. It has bamboo-like, deep green leaves and a slow-growing, compact habit, making it ideal for shade gardens or as a specimen plant. The plant reaches a mature size of 2-3 feet tall and wide and is hardy in USDA Zones 5-9. It prefers slightly acidic soil with sand and requires weekly watering after the first year. The flowers develop into grape-like bunches of wax-coated blackberries, attracting songbirds. It is extremely hardy and requires very little care or maintenance.
