Description:
Buxus sinica var. insularis is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with a compact, mounded form. It produces tiny, fragrant greenish-yellow flowers in spring that attract pollinators. The leaves shift to yellow-brown or purplish in winter, adding seasonal interest. Hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9, this shrub grows 2-3 feet in height and spreads 4-6 feet. It prefers moist, sandy loam soil and full sun for densest growth, and is resistant to deer, rabbits, and most pests.
