Penthorum sedoides

Penthorum sedoides is a perennial forb native to North America, known for its small white flowers and star-shaped fruit capsules that turn red in autumn. It thrives in wetland habitats and is adaptable to varying light conditions, growing upright in low light and creeping under brighter conditions. The plant features smooth stems with glandular hairs on the inflorescence and lanceolate, finely serrated leaves. It is listed as a species of special concern in Rhode Island and is an introduced species in the Pacific Northwest. This plant is easy to care for, does not require CO2, and has a slow growth rate, making it suitable for moderate light environments. It can be propagated through stem cuttings and typically reaches a height of 5-10 inches. Its adaptability and unique growth patterns make it an interesting addition to wetland gardens or aquariums.
