Pistia stratiotes, commonly known as water lettuce, is a floating plant popular in ponds and aquariums. It is favored by shrimp keepers for its ability to absorb nitrates and inhibit algae growth. The plant features soft, velvety leaves and propagates by forming new plants at the end of stolons. It grows quickly and can block light from reaching plants below.
